A brief on the functions of the four committees in DWMUN’19 :
Social Cultural and Humanitarian Committee (SOCHUM) :
The SOCHUM is the United Nations General Assembly’s Third Committee. It works toward solving issues related to human rights specifically under crisis conditions. The committee works for the protection of children, indigenous issues, refugee treatment , drug trading and trafficking, and other humanitarian affairs.
Commission on the status of the Women (CSW) :
The CSW is one of the commissions of the United Nation Economic and Social Council. This UN organ promotes women empowerment and their fundamental rights. It works for advancement on women worldwide in all fields. It works on political, social, economic, civil and educational women’s rights.
United Nations Security Council (UNSC):
The UNSC is responsible for the maintenance of international peace and security. It has the power to establish peacekeeping operations, impose sanctions as well as authorize military actions. These actions are taken through resolutions drafted by the members of the council. The SC has primarily 15 members as part of the council.
International Press Corps (IPC):
A fictional committee, IPC consists of delegates representing news agencies which are responsible for providing news reports based on the events taking place throughout a MUN conference. The delegates are expected to write articles that can be published as news, keeping in view of the policies of their respective news agencies.
